During his visit to Mauritius, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, signed several significant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at deepening the strategic partnership between the two nations. These agreements focus on a range of sectors, including currency settlement systems, shipping information exchange, and infrastructure development.
Key MoUs included a pact between the Central Bank of Mauritius and the Reserve Bank of India on Local Currency Settlement Systems, and a Credit Facility Agreement between the Government of Mauritius and the State Bank of India to finance water projects, particularly the Central Water Authority’s Pipe Replacement Programme. These agreements are part of ongoing efforts to enhance economic cooperation and infrastructure in both countries.
Additional MoUs were signed on various fronts, such as a training program for diplomats between the Institute of Foreign Service of India and Mauritius’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a technical agreement on the sharing of shipping information between the Indian Navy and Mauritius Police, and cooperation between the Financial Crimes Commission of Mauritius and India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Further agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties in public administration, ocean information services, and micro, small, and medium enterprises were also finalized. These MoUs reflect the nations’ commitment to fostering long-term collaboration across diverse sectors.
Prime Minister Modi also highlighted India’s continuing role as a trusted development partner globally, noting India’s support for significant infrastructure and healthcare projects. In Mauritius, India is set to inaugurate the Civil Service College and an Area Health Centre, both funded with Indian assistance, marking a significant step in the nation’s development.
PM Modi’s leadership is evident in numerous global projects, such as the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck Hospital in Bhutan, the Akhaura-Agartala rail link in Bangladesh, and the Jayanagar-Kurtha railway in Nepal, showcasing India’s commitment to infrastructure, healthcare, and connectivity projects worldwide.
India’s approach to international cooperation under PM Modi’s leadership is focused on mutual respect, sustainability, and capacity building, reinforcing its role as a reliable and steadfast partner for development.
